How to Import a SillyTavern / Tavern
Character Card into AIME

If you already built a character in SillyTavern (or another tool that exports Tavern Character Cards), you should not have to rebuild that character from scratch just to chat on your phone. We build AIME and the AIME Character Atlas, so this guide walks the path we ship: export a card → import it in Atlas Card studio → keep using it in AIME.

This is a how-to, not a soft feature pitch. Steps below match what the public Card studio UI showed on 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai). If the product changes labels later, trust the live site over this page.

30-second plain English

A Tavern Character Card is a portable character-definition file used across many roleplay tools. The common form is a PNG image with character data embedded inside it (often described as chara / ccv3 metadata), not just a portrait.

SillyTavern is a popular desktop front-end people use to chat with local or remote models and to export those cards. V2 and V3 are card-format versions. For this guide you only need to know: export a compatible Tavern PNG, then import that PNG into AIME.

What you need

  • A character card you have the right to use (your own creation, or a card the creator allows you to import).
  • The card as a PNG with readable embedded Tavern metadata.
  • A browser that can open AIME Character Atlas.
  • An AIME account (Card studio asks you to sign in before import finishes).
  • Optional: AIME already installed on iPhone (iOS 15+) or Android, or you can download it after import.

Export from SillyTavern (or a compatible tool)

We do not maintain SillyTavern. Use its current export / character-card controls and official docs for the exact clicks in your version.

High-level checklist:

  1. Open the character you want to move.
  2. Export it as a Tavern character card PNG (V2 or V3 compatible).
  3. Save the file somewhere you can upload from (computer Downloads, or AirDrop / cloud to the device you will use for Atlas).
  4. Prefer sending the original PNG as a file. Some chat apps strip PNG metadata and leave you with a plain portrait that Atlas cannot parse.

If your workflow only produces JSON, stop and re-export as a Tavern PNG for AIME. On 2026-10-23, Card studio’s upload control accepted PNG only.

Import in AIME Character Atlas (Card studio)

Verified on the public UI: characters.365aime.com/studio (“Card studio” in the Atlas top nav).

  1. Open Card studio.
  2. Read the intro line on the page: it tells you Atlas reads the embedded character, not only the portrait.
  3. Drop a Tavern PNG into the drop zone, or choose a local file. - Accepted type: PNG (image/png). - UI hint on an empty drop zone: PNG · chara / ccv3 · max 16 MB.
  4. Choose who can see this card before you import (you can change this later after import): - Private (default) - Link only - Public
  5. Click Parse & import.
  6. If you are not signed in, Atlas tells you to sign in through AIME before importing. Sign in, then run Parse & import again.
  7. When parsing succeeds, the right-hand panel fills with embedded fields such as Name, Description, Personality, Scenario, and First message. Edit anything that looks wrong.
  8. Click Save changes if you edited fields.
  9. Optional: Export Tavern PNG if you want a fresh PNG copy from Atlas.

Card studio’s empty-state copy says embedded fields appear without discarding extensions or lorebook data that are already inside the card. That is about preserving what the PNG carries. This guide does not claim a separate lorebook file upload or a full SillyTavern chat-history migration. If you need those, check current product docs; do not assume them from this page.

If import fails

These messages come from the live Card studio client (2026-10-23). Use them as troubleshooting clues:

What you see Likely cause What to try
A Tavern card must be a PNG file. File is not PNG Re-export as Tavern PNG
This PNG does not contain readable chara/ccv3 metadata. Portrait-only PNG, or metadata stripped Re-export from the source tool; avoid apps that re-compress / strip PNG metadata
Sign in through AIME before importing. Not authenticated Sign in with AIME, retry

We are not listing failure cases we have not seen in a signed-in upload of a sample card. If you hit a new error, keep the exact wording for support.

After import: check the card, then chat in AIME

Before you publish or share anything:

  1. Confirm name, first message, and personality / scenario still look like your character.
  2. Send yourself a short test chat once the character is available in AIME (Atlas also has a Chat entry in the nav).
  3. Only then consider switching visibility to Link only or Public, or publishing into the public catalog if that matches your intent.

AIME itself is the mobile companion app: long-term memory, real-time voice, multi-character group chats, and more. The point of this page is the card path. For product overview, see 365aime.com.

Not verified in this pass (login-gated): the exact tap path from a just-imported private card to the first message inside the iOS / Android app. Until that is walked with a signed-in account, treat “open in the AIME app” as: sign into the same AIME account on your phone and start a chat with that character from your library / Atlas-linked characters. Do not invent button names.

Honest boundaries

  • This page covers character card import into Atlas, not one-click migration of entire SillyTavern worlds.
  • We do not document JSON-only or CharX upload here, because Card studio’s public importer asked for PNG on the check date.
  • AIME’s public Atlas catalog is still small relative to huge web character libraries. On 2026-10-23 the Atlas home copy listed 136 public characters. Browse it with that expectation.
  • Do not upload cards you do not have rights to use (including unauthorized real-person or IP cards). Follow AIME’s policies and the law where you live.
  • AIME characters and replies are fictional AI. They do not replace professional advice.

Other apps also write import guides

Products such as Reverie and CharTale publish their own SillyTavern import pages (checked 2026-10-23). Their steps are theirs. Below we only describe AIME Character Atlas.

FAQ

Can I import my own character cards into AIME? Yes. AIME’s site FAQ points you to Character Atlas at characters.365aime.com to import, edit, and share Tavern Character Cards (V2/V3).

PNG or JSON? For Card studio on 2026-10-23, use a Tavern PNG with embedded metadata. Non-PNG files are rejected in the UI.

Do I need V2 or V3? Atlas publicly claims support for Tavern Character Cards V2/V3. Export a compatible card from your tool; you do not need to memorize the spec to follow this guide.

Do I have to make the card public? No. Visibility defaults to Private. You can keep it private, share by link, or set it public.

Is AIME free? AIME is free to download. AIME Premium is an optional monthly or yearly subscription. Prices are shown in the store at purchase.

Will chat history and separate lorebook files come over? This guide only covers the character card PNG path. Do not assume chat JSONL or standalone lorebook import unless a current AIME / Atlas page says so.

Next step

  1. Open Card studio and import your Tavern PNG.
  2. Download AIME for iPhone / Android with the same account.
  3. Optional: browse public cards on the Character Atlas while you decide what to publish.
