AIME / FIELD NOTES

Janitor AI Alternatives in 2026
(Sites Like Janitor AI, Compared)

Janitor AI is a community character hub: pick a bot, chat in the browser, and (depending on the day and your plan) optionally bring your own model. People leave — or look sideways — for different reasons: short free memory, phone apps that feel locked down, age checks in some countries, wanting voice, or wanting a portable character card they can keep on a phone app.

This page is for that search: Janitor AI alternatives / sites like Janitor AI. It is not the same intent as our Character.AI alternatives guide. C.AI seekers often want a mainstream library + filters; Janitor seekers often want a hub of community bots or a memory-first companion that feels less like a one-shot scene.

We build AIME and the AIME Character Atlas. We disclose that up front. AIME is one option at the end — strong on long-term memory, voice, group chat, and Tavern cards on mobile — and honestly smaller as a public catalog than large hubs. This is also not an adult-content shopping list. Where other products allow mature settings for adults, we mention that only as a public policy fact, not as our recommendation axis. Age rules and pricing change; trust each site’s live pages over this article. Checked 2026-10-26 (Asia/Shanghai).

Other roundups we opened the same day for structure only: Bot & Bae’s six-site comparison (updated October 18, 2026; research-based, not hands-on tested) and Mythx’s seven picks (published October 11, 2026). We do not copy their prices or rankings.

How to choose (before the list)

Library / cards vs one companion

Hubs (Janitor-like sites, Chub, SpicyChat-style libraries) optimize for many community characters. Companion apps (Nomi, Kindroid, AIME) optimize for ongoing relationship or story with memory and phone UX. Pick the shape that matches your week, not the loudest homepage.

Memory

If Janitor’s free context feels short, look at products that advertise automatic long-term memory or editable memory journals — then test them yourself for a few days. Marketing slogans are not benchmarks. See also what “long-term memory” means in AI chat.

Mobile apps

Some hubs are web-first; phone apps may default to restricted modes or ship as APK / home-screen shortcuts. Companion apps are often built mobile-first (iOS / Android store listings). Check the store page for the country you are in.

Setup vs hosted

Bring-your-own-model hubs (and SillyTavern) give control and cost flexibility — and homework. Hosted libraries chat with fewer knobs. Neither is “better”; they fail differently.

Age rating and content rules

Read each product’s age gate and content policy. AIME is framed for store-safe, 13+-style positioning on our side. Several hub alternatives are 18+ or allow adult roleplay under published rules. We will not rank products by how unfiltered they are.

Short reviews

SpicyChat / CrushOn AI: closest hosted library swaps

These are the options third-party guides most often name when someone wants Janitor’s “open a bot and chat” shape without building a stack. Public pages emphasize large community libraries and paid tiers for longer memory or stronger models. Good if you want hosted bots and minimal setup. Trade-off: age and content policies are typically adult-oriented; mobile distribution may be APK or web-wrapper rather than a polished App Store twin. Confirm current pricing and age checks on each site — we do not hard-code amounts.

Chub AI: card hub + bring-your-own model

Chub is repeatedly described as the nearest character-card hub to Janitor’s library culture, with lorebooks and optional API keys in public docs. Good if you collect cards or already pay for a model elsewhere. Trade-off: web-first; paid hosted models and crypto billing are details you must verify on Chub’s own subscribe page. Card portability is the upside for people who later want SillyTavern or AIME.

Character.AI: filtered + voice — sale process in progress

Still the smoothest mainstream alternative if you do not need adult roleplay. Voice calls and a huge community library remain the draw. On October 12, 2026, Character.AI announced a voluntary Chapter 11 sale; the official update says the platform remains up, with a possible wind-down if no suitable bid appears. If you keep using it, request an official data export early — see Export Character.AI Data & Save Character Cards.

Nomi or Kindroid: when memory is the main gap

If your complaint about Janitor is “it forgets,” companion apps built around automatic or editable long-term memory are a different product category, not a clone. Good if you want one (or a few) ongoing partners more than a scrolling bot mall. Trade-off: smaller “browse endless bots” energy. Re-read their memory help pages and store listings before you subscribe.

SillyTavern: full control on a front-end you run

SillyTavern is open-source UI, not a hosted hub. You connect a model, import cards, use lorebooks and group chats. Good if you already paste API keys into Janitor-style proxies and want maximum control. Trade-off: setup time; not a one-tap phone app. For phone paths, see SillyTavern character cards on iPhone & Android and our import into AIME guide.

AIME: memory, voice, group chat, and Tavern cards (our app)

AIME is an AI character companion for ongoing chats: long-term memory, real-time voice, multi-character group chats, and Character Atlas for discovering / importing / publishing Tavern Character Cards (V2/V3). Free to download; AIME Premium is optional (monthly or yearly — prices in the store). App Store language list includes English, Japanese, and Chinese. iPhone (iOS 15+) and Android.

Good if you want Janitor-like characters as portable cards on a phone, plus memory and group scenes, without self-hosting SillyTavern. Trade-off: the public Atlas catalog is still small (see the live Atlas home count; our Atlas explainer noted 149 characters on 2026-10-25 — re-check the page). We are not a Chub-scale NSFW mall and do not claim to be.

Import path: Card studio + import guide. Finding cards first: where to find SillyTavern cards.

Switching tips

  1. Decide whether you need a hub, a companion, or a card + phone path.
  2. Save character definitions / cards you have rights to before you abandon an account.
  3. Trial free tiers; give memory apps a few real days.
  4. Read age gates and content policies for your country.
  5. Characters and replies on AIME are fictional AI and do not replace professional advice.

FAQ

What is the best Janitor AI alternative?

There is no single best. Closest hosted hub feel → SpicyChat / CrushOn-style sites (check age rules). Card library + own model → Chub. Memory without babysitting → Nomi / Kindroid. Phone + portable Tavern cards + memory → AIME (our app). Full control → SillyTavern.

Is there a free Janitor AI alternative?

Several products advertise free tiers or free software (SillyTavern is free UI; you may still pay a model provider). Limits differ. Always confirm on the official pricing page — we do not invent free-message caps here.

Which Janitor AI alternative has better memory?

Companion apps that market lasting memory (Nomi, Kindroid, AIME’s long-term memory claim) are usually aimed at that pain. Hubs often sell larger context windows on paid tiers, which is related but not identical. Test with your own low-sensitivity checklist from our memory guide.

Can I use these on iPhone / Android?

Character.AI, Nomi, Kindroid, and AIME ship store apps (verify your region). Many adult hubs are web-first or APK-oriented. SillyTavern is primarily a desktop / self-hosted front-end.

Are Janitor AI alternatives safe for teens?

We only restate public ratings and policies — we do not give legal advice. Janitor-oriented hubs are frequently 18+. Character.AI and AIME use store-oriented age framing (AIME: fictional AI; follow the store listing). Parents and teens should read each app’s live policy.

How is this different from Character.AI alternatives?

Different starting problem. See the table near the top and our C.AI alternatives article.
