Chub AI Alternatives in 2026
(Including Apps That Import Your Cards)
Chub AI is best known as a character-card hub: browse community cards in the Tavern / V2 ecosystem, then chat on-site or take those definitions elsewhere. When people search Chub AI alternatives or sites like Chub, they usually want one of three things: another hosted library, a self-hosted front-end that still reads their cards, or a phone app that can import cards without rebuilding every bot.
We build AIME and the AIME Character Atlas. Disclosed up front. AIME is one mobile path — Tavern PNG V2/V3 import, long-term memory, voice, and group chat — with a small public catalog compared with giant hubs. This page is not the same intent as our Character.AI alternatives guide or our Janitor AI alternatives guide. Those start from different products; this one starts from Chub + portable cards. Checked 2026-10-27 (Asia/Shanghai).
Third-party roundups we opened the same day for structure (we do not copy their traffic numbers or price tables): SeaArt’s Chub AI alternative post (Updated Jul 6, 2026), PersonaChat’s Chub alternative page (Last updated 10 July 2026), and Techraisal’s seven-way comparison (Updated Jul 16, 2026). chub.ai itself returned a Cloudflare 403 block in this research pass, so live Chub billing and free-tier numbers should be verified on Chub’s own site or Help — treat mid-2026 “20 free messages / crypto payments / model cuts” claims as reported by those competitor articles, not as figures we independently measured.
Chub alternatives vs C.AI alternatives vs Janitor alternatives
| If you searched… | You usually want… | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Character.AI alternatives | Mainstream apps, filters, memory/voice | Our C.AI alternatives page |
| Janitor AI alternatives | Hub-style bot libraries / memory companions | Janitor alternatives |
| Chub AI alternatives / import Chub cards | Keep Tavern-format cards, escape friction, maybe chat on phone | This page |
You can read all three. Do not treat them as the same article with different titles.
Why people look for a Chub AI alternative
SeaArt, PersonaChat, and Techraisal independently describe a mid-2026 Chub reshape along the same themes: a tighter free chat allowance (often summarized as about 20 messages per day), fewer built-in models, and crypto-oriented subscriptions. PersonaChat additionally cites a dollar figure for Chub’s subscription on its July 2026 page — we are not hard-coding that amount here; open Chub’s live checkout if you still pay there.
Whatever the exact numbers today, the user problem is stable:
- Cards you already collected should not die with one vendor’s billing policy.
- Some people want normal App Store / Play billing instead of crypto rails.
- Some want mobile chat with those same definitions.
Chub’s lasting contribution — and SeaArt spells this out clearly — is helping popularize V2 / Tavern character cards that other clients can read. That portability is the escape hatch.
How to choose (before the list)
1. Hosted hub vs bring-your-own model
Hosted hubs (Janitor-like sites, some chat platforms) optimize for “open a bot and talk.” Self-hosted / BYO-key clients (SillyTavern and cousins) optimize for control. Neither is universally better; they fail differently (moderation and pricing vs setup homework).
2. Will it read your cards?
Ask: PNG Tavern card? JSON? CharX? Lorebook?
SeaArt notes SillyTavern-class tools import Chub/Tavern V2 cards directly. CharTale’s SillyTavern import docs (Last checked October 4, 2026) document PNG, JSON, and CharX, including V2/V3 inside PNG. AIME Character Atlas Card studio publicly accepts PNG with embedded V2/V3 metadata — see our import guide. We do not claim a first-class “upload raw Chub JSON” button the way PersonaChat markets for iOS.
If you only have JSON from Chub, convert/export to a Tavern PNG in a tool that supports it, then import into AIME — or use an app that documents JSON import.
3. Phone vs desktop
Full SillyTavern on iPhone is not a first-class official path (see our cards on iPhone & Android overview). Phone-native apps that import cards are the practical mobile answer.
4. Library size honesty
Giant hubs win on browse volume. AIME’s Atlas catalog is still small — we say that in our Atlas explainer. If your only goal is “infinite NSFW card mall,” this page is the wrong shopping list; we stay store-safe and will not rank products by how unfiltered they are.
Quick comparison
| Option | Best if | Card import (public claims) | Mobile | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stay on Chub | You still like its library + accept its live billing | Native hub | Web-first | Verify free tier & payment method on chub.ai (blocked here 2026-10-27) |
| Janitor-style hosted hubs | Closest “big community bots” swap | Varies; not always Tavern-PNG-first | Often web / limited apps | See Janitor alternatives |
| SillyTavern (+ card repos) | Max control; keep Chub V2 cards | Excellent Tavern/Chub card support per SeaArt | Desktop / self-host | Power-user path |
| Wyvern / Backyard-class ST-likes | ST flexibility with less local pain | V2 cards commonly advertised | Mixed | Confirm each product’s current import docs |
| PersonaChat | iOS + Chub JSON import pitch | Claims direct Chub JSON in Workshop (their Jul 2026 page) | iOS App Store | Their page; verify in App |
| CharTale | Hosted roleplay + broad card import | PNG / JSON / CharX (Oct 4, 2026 docs) | Per their site | Import docs are detailed |
| Card repos only (e.g. BotBooru-style) | Download cards, chat elsewhere | Download JSON/PNG | N/A | Pair with ST or a phone importer |
| AIME (our app) | Memory + voice + group chat + PNG cards on phone | Atlas: Tavern V2/V3 PNG | iOS 15+, Android | Catalog small; download |
Short reviews
Hosted hubs (Janitor and peers)
If what you miss is scale of community characters, Janitor-like hubs are the usual SeaArt/Techraisal recommendation. Trade-offs (age gates, memory tiers, mobile Safe modes) belong on those sites’ live pages — and on our Janitor-focused guide — not pasted as frozen prices here.
SillyTavern and ST-shaped clients
SillyTavern remains the reference card-native front-end. SeaArt’s roundup also groups WyvernChat and Backyard AI as ways to get similar flexibility with different install stories. Good if you already think in API keys, lorebooks, and local files. Trade-off: homework. Mobile is the weak spot unless you add a phone app that imports the same PNGs.
PersonaChat (iOS, Chub JSON claim)
PersonaChat’s July 2026 Chub alternative page positions itself as an iOS app that imports Chub JSON directly, with App Store billing and editable long-term memory. Good if you want exactly that JSON path on iPhone. Trade-off: it is a competitor product; we have not audited their importer. Check their App and their page.
CharTale import path
CharTale documents importing SillyTavern-style cards as PNG, JSON, or CharX, with V2/V3 PNG support and lorebook handling notes (Last checked October 4, 2026). Good if you want a hosted roleplay product with explicit import docs. Again: their terms and pricing are theirs.
AIME + Character Atlas (our path)
- Export or obtain a Tavern PNG (V2/V3 with embedded
chara/ccv3data). Finding cards: where to find SillyTavern character cards. - Import in Card studio — steps in the import guide.
- Chat in the AIME App (memory, voice, optional group chat). Install: download guide.
- Optionally publish to the public catalog (still small; creator cash withdrawals were coming soon as of our last Creator-page checks — open live Creator earnings).
We do not claim AIME reads every Chub JSON export one-tap. PNG is the documented Atlas path. If your Chub download is JSON-only, convert with a Tavern-compatible tool first.
FAQ
What is the best Chub AI alternative?
Depends whether you need a huge hosted library, SillyTavern-level control, or a phone importer. There is no single winner. Prefer products that read your existing cards.
Can I move Chub character cards to another app?
Often yes when the destination speaks Tavern V2/V3. SillyTavern-class clients and several hosted importers advertise that. AIME accepts PNG cards via Atlas.
Is AIME a Chub alternative?
For mobile companion chat + Tavern PNG import, yes — with an honest small catalog. For “replace Chub’s entire public card mall,” no.
Is this the same as a Character.AI alternatives list?
No. Start at #1 for C.AI. Use this page when Chub cards and crypto/free-tier friction are the reason you are leaving.
Did you verify Chub’s current prices?
Not on chub.ai this pass (Cloudflare 403). Mid-2026 change narratives come from SeaArt / PersonaChat / Techraisal pages dated July 2026. Re-check Chub yourself before you pay or leave.
